Memorial... My Brother: John Michael Schlageter... Fifth birthday home!

YOU DON’T JUST LOSE SOMEONE ONCE
You lose them over and over,
sometimes in the same day.
When the loss, momentarily forgotten,
creeps up,
and attacks you from behind.
Fresh waves of grief as the realization hits home,
they are gone.
Again.

You don’t just lose someone once,
you lose them every time you open your eyes to a new dawn,
and as you awaken,
so does your memory,
so does the jolting bolt of lightning that rips into your heart,
they are gone.
Again.

Losing someone is a journey,
not a one-off.
There is no end to the loss,
there is only a learned skill on how to stay afloat,
when it washes over.
Be kind to those who are sailing this stormy sea,
they have a journey ahead of them,
and a daily shock to the system each time they realize,
they are gone,
Again.

You don’t just lose someone once,
you lose them every day,
for a lifetime.

My Commonplace Book... Memorial: Mrs. Burma Gail Owens 5/4/53 ~ 1/21/22

Burma passed away and again no one told me. I am sad and will miss Burma so much! She was a loving and dedicated Christian and wanted to make everyone happy. Her husband's name is Wylie and he is the classic Wile E Coyote and would pull pranks on people. I remember so much of this family and my interactions with them. My condolences and prayers to Wylie and his family.

OBITUARY

"Burma Gail Owens entered into this live on May 4, 1953 in Hobbs, New Mexico and then passed on to her heavenly home on January 21,2022 at the age of 68. Burma was the daughter of Samuel Gibbs and Katheryn Earnest who both preceded her in death.

Burma is survived by her spouse, Wiley Owens whom she married on September 11, 1980.

Burma had many loving family members she left behind. She is survived by her daughter, Angela Flowers and her son Jason Flowers both of Hobbs, New Mexico. She is also survived by her stepsons, Glen Owens and David Owens, stepdaughters Gaynell Owens, Kendra Sharp, and Mandy Owens. She had 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Charles Gray Gibbs. Burma was preceded in death by her step father Dave Earnest, her sisters Linda K Gibbs and Montie Rae Ferns and grandson Jason Flowers Jr.

Burma will always be remembered as the sweet loving lady known as wife, nana, great nana and friend. She touched the lives of all who knew her. She enjoyed spending time with all of her family and her friends. During Burma's lifetime here on this earth she was involved faithfully in God's ministry by helping others and making sure everyone received her smile. She created smiles on those all around her."

My Commonplace Book... Poem: "The Spacious Firmament on High" by Joseph Addison

I was reading a book by Grace Livingston Hill and came upon this poem. It was a beautiful poem that has been set to music as an Hymn. The poem was written by Joseph Addison.

The Spacious Firmament on high, With all the blue Ethereal Sky, And spangled Heav'ns, a Shining Frame, Their great Original proclaim: Th' unwearied Sun, from day to day, Does his Creator's Pow'r display, And publishes to every Land The Work of an Almighty Hand. Soon as the Evening Shades prevail, The Moon takes up the wondrous Tale, And nightly to the list'ning Earth Repeats the Story of her Birth: Whilst all the Stars that round her burn, And all the Planets, in their turn, Confirm the Tidings as they rowl, And spread the Truth from Pole to Pole. What though, in solemn Silence, all Move round the dark terrestrial Ball? What tho' nor real Voice nor Sound Amid their radiant Orbs be found? In Reason's Ear they all rejoice, And utter forth a glorious Voice, For ever singing, as they shine, The Hand that made us is Divine.

    ~by Joseph Addison

I also found it being sung.

Memorial... My Brother: John Michael Schlageter (Fourth birthday in heaven)

The years pass by faster and faster; but, you are still in our hearts and minds!

"We thought of you in love today, but that is nothing new."

I also thought of the picture of you standing by a cactus. I used this picture to work on my skills of altering pictures. I gave you a twin! lol I laughed about it, but you were alive when I did it. I miss you so much that it hurts every time I think of you. I LOVE YOU, JOHN MICHAEL SCHLAGETER!

Memorial... My brother John Michael Schlageter (Three years in heaven)

Another year come and gone without you here to celebrate it with us. Love and miss you, John!

If Tomorrow starts without me

By David Romano (1993, attributed)

When tomorrow starts without me,
And I'm not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
all filled with tears for me,

I wish so much you wouldn't cry
The way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
We didn't get to say.

I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
and each time that you think of me,
I know you'll miss me too.

But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,

and said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind
All those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away,
A tear fell from my eye
For all my life, I'd always thought,
I didn't want to die.

I had so much to live for,
So much left yet to do,
It seemed almost impossible,
That I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays
The good ones and the bad,
I thought of all the love we shared,
and all the fun we had

If I could re-live yesterday
Just even for a while,
I'd say good-bye and kiss you
And maybe see you smile.

But then I fully realized,
That this could never be,
For emptiness and memories,
would take the place of me.

And when I thought of worldly things,
I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did,
My heart was filled with sorrow.

But when I walked through heaven's gates,
I felt so much at home
When God looked down and smiled at me,
From His great golden throne.

 He said, "This is eternity,
And all I've promised you."
Today your life on earth is past,
But here life starts anew

I promise no tomorrow,
But today will always last,
And since each day's the same
There's no longing for the past.

You have been so faithful,
So trusting and so true.
Though there were times you did some things
You knew you shouldn't do.

But you have been forgiven
And now at last you're free.
So won't you come and take my hand
And share my life with me?

So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here, in your heart.

Memorial... John Michael Schlageter (3rd birthday in heaven)

You were taken so quickly. Just on your way to work and bam! you are home with Jesus! I didn't even get to say goodbye. I was in bed before you left, and I hadn't wanted to go see the latest Star Wars movie with you the last time you were off work and wanted to go see it. I didn't feel like going out, so I said I didn't want to go. I wish so much I had gone with you!!!!! I miss you still!!! Life is short!!!!

Memorial... My Brother: John Michael Schlageter (Two years in heaven)

Two years have come and gone. I look forward to when we can meet again in the light of the Risen Lamb, the Great I AM!

Words & music by Walt Harrah

The timeless theme, Earth and Heaven will pass away.
It's not a dream, God will make all things new that day.
Gone is the curse from which I stumbled and fell.
Evil is banished to eternal hell.

No more night. No more pain.
No more tears. Never crying again.
And praises to the great "I AM."
We will live in the light of the risen Lamb.

See all around, now the nations bow down to sing.
The only sound is the praises to Christ, our King.
Slowly the names from the book are read.
I know the King, so there's no need to dread.

No more night. No more pain.
No more tears. Never crying again.
And praises to the great "I AM."
We will live in the light of the risen Lamb.

See over there, there's a mansion, oh, that's prepared just for me,
Where I will live with my savior eternally.

No more night. No more pain.
No more tears. Never crying again.
And praises to the great "I AM."
We will live in the light of the risen Lamb.

All praises to the great "I AM."
We're gonna live in the light of the risen Lamb.

Memorial... My brother John Michael Schlageter (2nd Birthday home)

This song helps when I think of you! Happy Birthday in Heaven!

Lyrics

I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk by your side
I can only imagine
What my eyes would see
When your face is before me
I can only imagine
I can only imagine, yeah

Surrounded by your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of You be still
Will I stand in your presence
To my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine

I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I find myself
Standing in the sun
I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship you
I can only imagine
I can only imagine

Surrounded by your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of You be still
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine, yeah
I can only imagine

Surrounded by your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of You be still
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all

I can only imagine yeah
I can only imagine yeah yeah
I can only imagine yeah yeah
I can only imagine
I can only imagine yeah yeah
I can only imagine

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship you
I can only imagine

Memorial... My brother John Schlageter (1st birthday home)

Your first birthday in heaven. I miss you so much!

Memorial... John Michael Schlageter (1st birthday in heavenly home)

Just a few short months ago, you went home to your heavenly Father. Daddy misses you and I saw him crying that you had left. Love and miss you, John!

Faith Like That
By: Gordon Mote

I could see his hands were shaking
As he took the microphone
He said my little boys not gone
He's just gone home

Then he opened up his bible
And read from John 14
He said, I'm here to celebrate his life
Not grieve

It hurts how bad I miss him
But what better place to be?
He's with his other Father
Who loves him more than me

I want to have faith like that
Let it be who I am
I want to see the bigger picture
And trust it's in God's hands
I want have faith
I want to faith like that

Well I walked up to him after
Not real sure what to do
I hugged him
But wondered who was hugging who?

Before I could say I'm sorry
He said, It's gonna be alright
And as we stood there
I could almost hear him smile

I thought I could give him comfort
Yeah I thought I believed
I went there for him
But, he was there for me

I want to have faith like that
Let it be who I am
I want to see the bigger picture
And trust it's in God's hands
I want have faith
I want to faith like that

I want to walk the walk
Not just talk the talk
I want to make it who I am

I want have faith
Yea I want to faith like that

Memorial... My Brother: John Michael Schlageter 4/22/75 - 12/29/17 (Has gone home to the LORD last night)

 John Michael Schlageter, 42,

left to be with the Lord on Friday Dec. 29, 2017.

My Little, Big brother (born after me, but was taller than me) has gone home to be with the LORD!. I would always say that he was the classic of "Tall, dark and handsome!" John was slow in movements (such as his nickname of turtle) and he could keep his feelings and words closer than a rock. If he didn't want to talk, you couldn't get him to talk. He was sensitive and was loved! He is and will continue to be missed by his family and by his animal dog friends: Brownie and Tizzy. He was and will continue to be one of my BEST FRIENDS!

He was born in Ft. Oglethorphe, Georgia, Apr. 22, 1975, to George and Jacquelyn (Hatvany) Schlageter. He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents (Frank and Deloris June (Uhlenbecker) Hatvany and Glenn and Marion (James) Schlageter), A Cousin Stephen Hatvany, Aunt and Uncle Ted and Carolyn (Hatvany) Vinca, Aunt Rosemary Hatvany, Great Aunt Nellie Ruth (James) Layne, along with a baby sister.

He is survived by His parents, George "Jack" and Jacquelyn "Jackie" (Hatvany) Schlageter, of Carrizozo, N.M., Sister Margret Schlageter, Brother Fred and Kimberly (LaMay) Schlageter and several Aunts, Uncles and multiple Cousins.

My Commonplace Book... Poem: He Had No Servants

He Had No Servants

Jesus had no servants, yet they called Him Master.
He had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher.
He had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer.
He had no army, yet kings feared Him.
He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world.
He committed no crime, but they crucified Him.
He was buried in a tomb, yet *HE LIVES TODAY!

Book Review: Heaven is for Real

Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back  is the story of Colton. Colton has just turned four years old and he has a life-changing experience with Jesus. During an emergency surgery to correct a burst appendix, and to clean out two or three abscesses, Colton visits Heaven. Over the next several years, Colton tells his parents bits and pieces of his amazing adventure. His adventure of meeting people he never knew and meeting Jesus and God.   I give this book a rating of 3/5

Finding this a thought provoking book was a joy. One thought I had was, why not? The language was simple and down to earth. There was no talking down to you and no in your face, fire and brimstone talk. Alternately, I cried and laughed. I cried when reading of all the troubles that happened to the Burpo family, and laughed when Colton said things how only a four year old could say them. The story also made a longing to see Heaven myself one day. I sat down to read it and read through it in just an hour.

(Spoiler Alert)
